Why You Shouldn't Submit Your Manuscript to a Traditional Book Publisher

For most people, publishing a book is a complete waste of time.

I don’t say this to deter you from publishing your work. Instead, I want to
keep you from being disappointed. Let me explain why.

First of all, publishing the traditional way is an outdated business
model. First of all, most manuscripts get rejected (about 99.9% of them).
Secondly, it can take two to three years to get a manuscript published
(if it is accepted).

Next, traditional publishers are in the publishing business, not the selling
business. Just because a company publishes your book doesn’t guarantee they
will spend even $1 trying to promote it for you. If you’re not willing to
spend as much time marketing your work as you did writing it, you
shouldn’t even try to publish your work.

Finally, most traditional authors receive between 10-15% royalties on their
book. And, that’s not off the retail price. That’s off the wholesale price
that the distributor or book store paid for the book. In other words, most
books generate somewhere between fifty cents and two dollars for the author.

Even if you are fortunate enough to become a best seller, you don’t get that
much money.

That’s why you should consider becoming an infopreneur.

Take your same manuscript and do either one of two things.

1) Self-Publish: Publish your own books for less than $3 each. Sell them for
$15 each and keep $12 or more per copy. That way, you earn six to 12 times
(or more) per book than you would with a traditional publisher. And, you can
sell less books while making more money.

2) Create an eBook: Turn your manuscript into an eBook. Sell it for $19.95.
Keep 95% or more of the selling price (less merchant credit card fees). And,
you have no physical inventory. No shipping costs either.

The only real exceptions to this rule are people who are already best-selling
authors and already have a large fan base. the other exception is fiction
books. Most infopreneurs produce “non-fiction” works. It would be more
difficult to produce and sell a “fiction” eBook.
